A major electronic parts manufacturer. Formerly the world's largest manufacturer of ferrite and magnetic tape, the company's main sources of revenue are magnetic heads for hard disk drives and ceramic capacitors. In 1935, Tokyo Denki Kagaku Kogyo was established with the aim of commercializing the world's first ferrite core, invented by Yogoro Kato and Takeshi Takei (both PhDs from the Tokyo Institute of Technology). The company grew rapidly because ferrite was an important material for televisions and radios. It later expanded its business to ceramic capacitors and magnetic tape manufacturing, and grew to become the world's top brand in cassette tapes and video tapes. Since expanding into Taiwan in 1968, it has established production bases overseas, including in the United States, Korea, and Mexico, transforming into an international company. In 1983, the company was renamed to its current name. Headquarters in Tokyo, with factories in Akita, Nagano, Chiba, etc. Capital in 2011 was 32.6 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 875.7 billion yen. 電子部品メーカーの大手。かつてはフェライト，磁気テープで世界一のメーカーだったが，最近はHDD用の磁気ヘッドやセラミックコンデンサーなどが収益の柱。1935年加藤与五郎・武井武（ともに東京工業大学の博士）が発明した世界初のフェライトコアの事業化を目的に，東京電気化学工業を設立。フェライトがテレビ・ラジオの重要素材であったことから，急激に成長した。のちセラミックコンデンサー，磁気テープ製造に事業拡大し，カセットテープ，ビデオテープで世界のトップブランドに成長。1968年台湾に進出以降，米国，韓国，メキシコなど海外に生産拠点を設け，国際的企業に変容している。1983年現社名に改称。本社東京，工場秋田，長野，千葉など。2011年資本金326億円，2011年３月期売上高8757億円。売上構成（％）は，受動部品49，磁気応用製品42，その他９。海外売上比率87％。
