Born March 12, 1626, Percy of Easton, Wiltshire [Died] June 1697. Oxford English antiquarian. Studied at Oxford University. The only work published during his lifetime was the Miscellanies (1696), a collection of stories about dreams, visions, and ghosts, but he left behind many manuscripts. The notes on rumors he collected mainly for A. Wood's Biographical Dictionary (1691-92), known as the Brief Lives, are an excellent collection of anecdotes about famous people including Shakespeare, but are unreliable in terms of details.
