Years of birth: Years of birth and death unknown. A Tosa school painter from the mid-Muromachi period. His name can also be read as "Hirochika." He was the son of Tosa Yukihiro and called himself Danjo. Records remain from 1439 (Eikyō 11) to 1492 (Meiō 1). In 1487 (Chokyō 1), he became a monk and took the posthumous Buddhist name of Kyozo. His court-related paintings include the creation of the principal image for the 7th anniversary memorial service for Gokomatsu-in (1439), which earned him the estate of Tanba Sanka Kita-sho (Taki County, Hyogo Prefecture). There are also records of him creating the principal image of Fugen (1471) for the 100th day memorial service for Gohanazono-in, and the Jizo statue for the memorial service for Karakumon-in (1488), but it is unclear whether he was appointed as a court painter. He approached the Muromachi Shogunate and was granted land including the former site of Joko-bo Temple at Konsho-ji Temple (1459), during which he painted a picture of a sake cup stand for Ashikaga Yoshimasa (1465). His "Ame-no-wakahiko-zoshi" (owned by the Museum of East Asian Art, Berlin) is considered to be the only original work. His style was characteristic of his father, Yukihiro, who was clear and gentle. Records also show that he collaborated with his son, Yukisada, on the "Illustrated Scroll of Saint Myoe" (1479).
