Ijima ruins - Ijimaiseki

Japanese: 井島遺跡 - いじまいせき

This site is located in Kurakake, at the southern end of Ishima, Naoshima-cho, Kagawa-gun, Kagawa Prefecture, and dates back to the end of the Paleolithic period. The lower coastline of the Kurakake Plateau is also home to sites where pottery from the final Jomon period has been unearthed, and sites containing Shiraku-style pottery, a type of salt-making pottery. The presence of layers containing Paleolithic artifacts in Kurakake, where Paleolithic stone tools have been unearthed, and on the adjacent plateau, was noticed around 1951, and formal excavations were carried out in 1954 and 1955. Stone tools collected from this site include stone spears, stone arrowheads, knife-shaped stone tools, small knife-shaped stone tools, microblades, and microblade cores, and during the formal excavation, small knife-shaped stone tools were discovered in a layer below the microblades and microblade cores.

香川県香川郡直島町井島の南端鞍掛にある旧石器時代終末ころの遺跡であるが，鞍掛台地の下部海岸線には，縄文時代晩期の土器を出土する地点や，製塩土器である師楽式土器の包含される地点もある。旧石器時代の石器を出土する鞍掛およびこれに接する台地に，旧石器時代の遺物包含層の存在が注意されたのは，1951年ごろで，54,55年に正式に発掘が行われた。この遺跡で採集された石器は，石槍，石鏃，ナイフ形石器，小型ナイフ形石器，細石刃，細石刃核などであるが，正式発掘で小型ナイフ形石器が細石刃･細石刃核などより下の層位で発見された。
