Born: April 17, 1903, Ekaterinoslav [Died] August 6, 1976, Los Angeles. An American cellist born in Russia. He first studied violin at the Moscow Conservatory, then switched to cello, and served as first cellist at the Moscow Imperial Opera House and the Warsaw Opera House. From 1925 to 1929, he was recognized by W. Furtwängler and served as first cellist at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1941, he became a professor at the Curtis Institute of Music and obtained American citizenship. After working with V. Horowitz and N. Milstein, he formed a trio with A. Rubinstein and J.
