Japanese: ひも(紐) - ひも

It is a long, thin, flexible string that is thicker than thread and thinner than rope or sash, and is used to tie, pierce, or hang things. It is made from materials such as vines, bark, leather, wool, cloth, thread, and paper, and is divided into braided strings, woven strings, knitted strings, cut strings, quilted strings, and bundled strings depending on the manufacturing method. In addition, cords and ropes are also included in the broad definition of cord. These are made using one of the basic techniques of twisting, braiding, weaving, and braiding.

(1) Braided cords are made by crossing one or several dozen threads diagonally as one unit, and using three or more units, and sometimes even more than 100 units, the resulting shape can be classified as either “flat” or “round.”

細長く柔軟で，糸より太く，綱や帯より細いものをいい，物を縛ったり，貫いたり，垂らしたりするのに用いる。つる，樹皮，皮革，毛，布，糸，紙などを材料としてつくり，製作方法の相違によって組紐，織紐，編紐，裁（たち）紐，絎（くけ）紐，束（たば）ね紐などに分けられる。このほかにこよりや縄も広義の紐の中に含められる。これらは縒（よ）る，組む，織る，編むという基本的な技法のいずれかでつくられる。
［紐の種類］
　(1)組紐　1本～数十本の糸を1単位とし，それを3単位以上，ときには100単位以上を使って斜め方向に交差させてつくったもので，できあがった形状から〈平打ち〉と〈丸打ち〉の別がある。
