Born: June 27, 1808 in Zwolle Died: February 3, 1875. Dutch author and poet. He founded the cultural magazine De Gids (1837) and worked to promote national literature. His major works include the fable Jan, Jannetje en hun jongste kind (42), the prose Het Rijksmuseum (44), and the poetry collection Florence (68).
