Harou (English spelling) pá láo

Japanese: 耙労 - はろう（英語表記）pá láo

A farming tool from ancient China. The rake is used to crush the tilled soil and cut the underground capillaries at the surface, while the raft is used to break up the soil, compact it, and prepare the capillaries. Since agriculture in northern China generally relies on rainwater, it is desirable to use as much of the moisture in the ground as possible. Therefore, after plowing, the soil is broken up with a rake, and then a raft is used to break up the soil and at the same time close the capillaries, thereby increasing the moisture in the soil. In other words, the cycle of plowing → rake → raft → rake → raft is repeated, and the more times the raft and rake work is done, the better.

中国古来からの農具。耙は耕起した土を粗砕したり，地中の毛細管を地表面で切断するのに使用され，労は土を細砕し，鎮圧して毛細管をととのえるのに使用する。華北の農業は一般に雨水にたよっているため，地中の水分の可能な限りの利用が望ましい。そのため耕起ののち，耙で土を破砕し，次いで労を使用して土を細砕すると同時に毛細管をしめて土中の水分を上昇させる作業を繰り返す。すなわち耕→耙→労→耙→労の繰り返し作業をするわけで，労耙作業は回数が多いほどよいという。
