A former town in Kamo-gun, northern Kumamoto Prefecture. A purely agricultural mountain village in the southern part of the Chikuhi Mountains, it produces rice, bamboo shoots, chestnuts, shiitake mushrooms, tobacco leaves, watermelons, and is a thriving beef and dairy cow breeding region. In Sagara, there is the Aira Tobikazura (a special natural monument). In January 2005, it was incorporated into Yamaga City along with the towns of Kahoku, Kamo-gun, and Kamo-cho. Area: 77.38 km2 . 熊本県北部，鹿本(かもと)郡の旧町。筑肥(ちくひ)山地の南部にある純農山村で，米，タケノコ，クリ，シイタケ，葉タバコ，スイカなどを産し，肉牛・乳牛飼育が盛ん。相良(あいら)にアイラトビカズラ（特別天然記念物）がある。2005年１月鹿本郡鹿北町，鹿本町，鹿央町と山鹿市へ編入。77.38km2。7815人（2003）。
