Government men

...The abbreviation for Federal Bureau of Investigation, an agency belonging to the Department of Justice in the United States that investigates crimes that violate federal laws. In Japan, the activities of the FBI and its agents, the "G-men," during the Prohibition era in the 1920s are well known through television and movies. When the FBI was established in 1908, the scope of the federal government's activities was still narrow, and the FBI was only a small investigative team. However, as the number of investigations and crackdowns on crimes under federal laws increased, such as the Antitrust Act in the 1910s and Prohibition in the 1920s, the FBI's scope of activities expanded and it grew in size.

…連邦捜査局Federal Bureau of Investigationの略称で，アメリカ合衆国司法省に所属し，連邦法違反の犯罪を捜査する機関。日本ではテレビ，映画等を通じて，1920年代禁酒法施行時代のFBIと，その所属捜査官である〈GメンGovernment men〉の活動がよく知られている。1908年の発足当時は，まだ連邦政府の活動範囲もせまく，FBIも小人数の捜査班程度であったが，10年代の反トラスト法，20年代の禁酒法等，連邦法による犯罪の捜査，取締り件数が増えるにつれてFBIの活動領域もひろがり，規模も大きくなった。…
