...The name Kanegōzan comes from this mountain name. Near the summit is Katsuragi Shrine, which enshrines Hitokotonushi-no-Okami. The foothills on the Kawana side of the mountain were the base of the Kusunoki clan in the Middle Ages, and in 1331 (Genkō 1), Kusunoki Masashige raised his army at Akasaka Castle, and "built an imposing castle at a place called Kongōsan Chihaya" (Masukagami), where he fought against the Kamakura shogunate forces, making the mountain instantly famous. *Some of the terminology that refers to "Katsuragi Shrine" is listed below.
