American blues guitarist and singer. His real name was George Guy. While based in the traditional blues style, he absorbed elements of it to explore a more modern style. His representative works include "A Man & the Blues" (1968). He was active in exploring connections with rock through collaborations with rock groups such as the Rolling Stones (1970) and E. Clapton (1972, 1989). He also had a major influence on the guitar styles of later artists such as J. Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan (1954-1990).
