1896‐1970 British psychoanalyst. Born in Hungary, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Budapest. He began his research in psychoanalysis in Berlin, but later studied under Ferenczi in Budapest, and after his death became director of the Budapest Psychoanalytic Clinic. After fleeing to Britain due to the persecution of Jews, he settled in London, where he was active in both clinical practice and research. He places importance on the relationship between mother and child, and is known as one of the creators of object relations theory.
