The system implemented in the UK under the National Health Service Act in 1948 aims to provide comprehensive health care free of charge to all residents. It is also called the National Health Service (NHS). There are two main methods of health care insurance: the social insurance (health insurance) method, which is rational in covering medical expenses, and the health service method, which is more suitable for covering health care itself, including prevention and rehabilitation. There are few examples of the latter method being adopted in developed capitalist countries, and the UK's system is a prime example of this.
