Located in the center of Paris, this is France's premier opera and ballet theater. It originated from the Royal Academy of Music and Dance founded by Louis XIV in 1669 (it began operations in 1671). It is a large theater with a proud tradition that is as famous as the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, and the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, but while the former two are famous as opera houses, the Opera and the Bolshoi are more famous for their ballet. The original building has been lost, and the current building was designed by C. Garnier and built over a period of 14 years, and opened in 1875. It is one of the largest Italian horseshoe-shaped stages. The ceiling painting of the auditorium was painted by Chagall in 1964 at the suggestion of Malraux, the Minister of Culture at the time. It also has a museum and library. In 1989, a second opera theater, the Opera Bastille, was opened in the Bastille, a place associated with the French Revolution, and performances are held in both the original building, the Palais Garnier, and the current theater. → Nureyev / Lifar → Related topics Elsler | Auber | Auric | Quadrille | Camargo | Campra | Grisi | Gossec | Coppélia | Conservatoire | Giselle | Chaliapin | Jeanmaire | Spesivtseva | Taglioni | Royal Danish Ballet | Delibes | Paris | Petit | Petipa | Bournonville | Verdi | Perrault | Meyerbeer | Yoko Morishita | La Sylphide | Rampal | Los Angeles | Royal Ballet Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
