"The Chronicle of Gyoki"

...The common people who gathered to admire him often numbered 1,000, listened to his sermons, and built bridges and embankments under the guidance of Gyoki, who had mastered civil engineering techniques, and completed them quickly. The locations and scales of agricultural and transportation facilities, such as 15 ponds, 7 ditches, 4 moats, 3 gutters, 1 road, 2 ports, and 9 almshouses (for providing lodging and food for tribute transporters and government servants) that Gyoki built in Kawachi, Izumi, Settsu, and Yamashiro (Castle) Provinces by 741 (Tenpyo 13), are recorded in the Tenpyo Jusannenki (Cited from Gyoki Nenpu). The Gyoki Nenpu (1175, written by Izumi Takafu Sukune) records the locations and construction dates of the so-called 49 temples that Gyoki opened in the Kinai region by around 745, which were also built with donations and cooperation from common believers.
