A powerful Aryan tribe in the Early Vedic period (c. 1500-1000 BC). Based in the eastern end of the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent, in the Sarasvati River basin, they expanded their power while fighting with Aryan tribes and the indigenous Dasas. King Sudas, famous for the "War of the Ten Kings," belonged to this tribe. In the Late Vedic period (c. 1000-c. 700-600 BC), they advanced into the upper reaches of the Ganges River, merging with other tribes. The Kurus and Panchalas are said to belong to this lineage.
