…The scope of the Sudetenland varies depending on the period, but broadly speaking, it refers to (1) the German-inhabited areas in northern Czech Republic, and (2) all areas where Germans and Czechs are mixed. However, after the Munich Agreement in September 1938, it referred to the areas that were incorporated into the Third Reich, and from March 1939, when Czech Republic itself was annexed by the Third Reich, until 1945, it referred to the crescent-shaped Czech fringe region called Sudeten-Gau or Gau-Sudeten. Germans living in the former Czech Kingdom (which consisted of parts of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia) were originally called Bohemian Germans or German Bohemians, but since the 1910s, the term Sudeten Germans has become common to increase the sense of solidarity and ethnic identity among German-inhabited areas. …
