This was a training hall for ascetic practices of the Imperial Court, located to the southwest of the Daidairi in Heian-kyo and to the west of Chuwa-in. It was established at the request of Kukai in the first year of the Jowa era ( 834 ), and ascetic practices were performed on the platform on the seventh day of the New Year , which became a tradition every year thereafter.
