Japanese: 原田種直 - はらだ・たねなお
Harada Tanenao
Years of birth: Years of birth and death unknown. A military commander in the late Heian period. Known as Iwato Shokyo and Okura no Daifu. His father was Okura Tanehira. His wife is said to be the daughter of Taira no Yorimori. It is said that he held a territory of 3,700 cho in Chikuzen Province (Fukuoka Prefecture), but this is not certain. He was based in Harada Manor and Iwato-go, and was a powerful official who controlled the oil company in Hakozaki, Hakata, and the trading port of Imazu. During the construction of the Usa Shrine Shikinen in 1158 by Dazai no Daini Taira no Kiyomori, he served as a Dazai no Daikan (Daizai Daikan) and a kohanshi (official sent to collect taxes) from Higo Province, and protected Emperor Goshirakawa when the capital was moved to Fukuhara in 1180. In 1181, he was appointed Dazai no Gon Shoni. He played a part in the Taira clan's control of Chinzei. He welcomed the Heike clan to Dazaifu and played an active role in fighting against Kikuchi Takanao and Minamoto Noriyori, but when the Heike clan was destroyed in the Battle of Dannoura in 1185, he surrendered to the Minamoto clan. He was later pardoned and his territory was confiscated, but it is said that he lived in Ito County, Chikuzen Province. <References> Masaki Kisaburo, "Research on the Dazaifu Territory"
