It is classified as agarwood . [Etymology] (1) "Kō" alone means "imperial voyage." It is said that when the emperor leaves the palace, the people of that region are given food, a rank, and are exempt from paying land tax, which brings them good fortune [Caiyū - arbitrary opinion]. (2) "Gyokou" is pronounced "kaukau" in Kan'on and "gyaugyau" in Go'on, but the form "gyaukau" has been used generally since early times, and in the Middle Ages and early modern times the rendaku form "gyaugau" can also be seen.
