Coati (English: coati)

Japanese: ハナグマ(鼻熊) - ハナグマ（英語表記）coati

A general term for mammals of the Nasua genus in the Procyonidae family of the Carnivora order that resemble raccoons but have flattened foreheads and long snouts. They are found from Arizona to Peru, and the most representative is the large white-nosed coati N. narica (illustration). There are two other species: the slightly smaller red coati N. nasua with a gray snout found in central and northern South America, and the Cozumel coati N. nelsoni found on the island of Cozumel. They are 41-67cm long, 32-69cm long, and weigh 3-6kg.

アライグマに似るが前頭部が平たく吻（ふん）が長い食肉目アライグマ科ハナグマ属Nasuaの哺乳類の総称。アリゾナからペルーに分布し，大型で，鼻づらが白いハナジロハナグマN.narica（イラスト）が代表的。他に南アメリカ中･北部に分布し，やや小型で鼻づらが灰色のアカハナグマN.nasua，コズメル島のコズメルハナグマN.nelsoniの2種がある。体長41～67cm，尾長32～69cm，体重3～6kg。
