Flower spider - Misumenops tricuspidatus

Japanese: ハナグモ(花蜘蛛) - ハナグモ（英語表記）Misumenops tricuspidatus

A spider of the family Thomisidae in the order Araneae. It does not spin webs, but hides in the shade of flowers and preys on small insects that come near it. Females are about 7mm long, with a light green anterior body and ambulatory legs, a white posterior body, and a distinctive brown spot shaped like an eight on the back, and a brown posterior edge. Males are about 4mm long, with a brown anterior body and ambulatory legs, and a pair of black-brown vertical stripes on the carapace. The posterior body is white, green in the center of the back, and has a brown spot similar to that of the female. Many nymphs do not have markings on the abdomen. They are widely distributed throughout Japan, Asia, and Europe.

クモ目カニグモ科の蛛形（ちゆけい）類。網を張らず草花の陰に潜み，そこにくる小昆虫を捕食している。雌は体長7mm内外，前体部と歩脚は若草色，後体部は白色で背面に八字状の独特な褐色斑があり，後縁も褐色となる。雄は体長4mm内外，前体部と歩脚は褐色で背甲には1対の黒褐色縦斑がある。後体部は白色で背面中央は緑色となり，雌に似た褐色斑がある。若虫では腹部に斑紋のない個体が多い。日本全国およびアジア，ヨーロッパに広く分布する。
