Practical theology (English spelling)

A branch of Christian theology that deals with theoretical reflection on the practical activities specific to the church. While biblical theology and historical theology place emphasis on the past, practical theology, along with systematic theology, places emphasis on the present. As a theology with a highly practical character, practical theology is also called the "crown of theology" (Schleiermacher), and generally includes preaching, worship (liturgy), Christian pedagogy, pastoral studies, pastoral psychology (including pastoral counseling and clinical pastoral training), evangelism, and canon law, but can also include church music, church art, church architecture, world church studies (ecumenism), and Christian social welfare studies.

キリスト教神学の一部門で、教会固有の実践活動に関する理論的省察を担当する。聖書神学、歴史神学などが過去性に重点を置くのに対して、実践神学は組織神学とともに現在性に重点を置く。優れて実践的な性格をもつ神学において、実践神学は「神学の冠」（シュライエルマハー）ともいわれ、説教学、礼拝学（典礼学）、キリスト教教育学、牧会学、牧会心理学（牧会カウンセリング、臨床牧会訓練などを含む）、伝道学、教会法学などを一般に含むが、教会音楽、教会美術、教会建築、世界教会学（エキュメニズム）、キリスト教社会福祉学などが含まれることもある。
