Zhang Xichuan (English spelling)

Zhang Xichuan (English spelling)
1860‐1933
A Chinese clinical physician. His courtesy name was Shoufu, and he was from Yanshan (Hebei Province). He was especially famous in the northeast and Tianjin areas. He wrote the Lu of the Visit to the West of Medicine. This book follows the tradition of formula books, dividing the disease into yin deficiency, fatigue, heat, asthma, and lung diseases, and lists treatment prescriptions for each. Each prescription is accompanied by an explanation based on Chinese medical theory, and some also include Western medical theory and treatment. The prescriptions are generally simple, but they were based on his own experience, and were welcomed by traditional physicians in general. After his death, his son and disciples added unpublished sections on drugs, medical theory, etc., and the more recent publication was revised in 1972 by the Hebei New Medical University Lu of the Visit to the West of Medicine Revision Group, which added posthumous manuscripts and deleted some previously published sections, so there are some differences from the version he published himself.
