A Korean painter from the Yi Dynasty. Born in Gwangju, his pen name was Wonbaek, and his pen names were Gyeonjae and Nangok. Originally from a yangban family, he was blessed with artistic talent, and at the urging of his great-grandfather, he became a painter at the Drawing Office. He is one of the most important painters in the history of Korean painting, and reached the rank of Hyeongan (prefecture governor). He traveled to many regions, painting Mount Kumgang and other famous sites, breaking new ground in true landscape painting. His originality, as seen in works such as Complete Map of Kumgang, Deva Kings with Refreshing Colors (Hoam Museum of Art, Seoul), and Cheongpung Valley (Kansong Museum of Art, Seoul), can be said to be a fusion of the traditional Northern School style of painting with the newly introduced Southern School style of painting.

朝鮮，李朝時代の画家。光州の人。字は元伯，号は謙斎，蘭谷。元来は両班（ヤンバン）の出身であったが，画才に恵まれ，高祖父のすすめによって図画署の画員となった。朝鮮絵画史上最も重要な画家の一人であり，官位は県監(県知事)に至る。多くの地方を巡歴し，金剛山その他の名勝を描き，真景図に新境地を開いた。《金剛全図》，《仁王霽色図》(ソウル，湖巌美術館)，《清風渓図》(ソウル，澗松美術館)などにみる彼の独創性は従来の北宗画様式に，新たに伝えられた南宗画様式を折衷させたものといえよう。
