A general term for elementary particles that have strong interactions. Hadron is the Greek word for strong particle. Among hadrons, those with half-integer spin (1/2, 3/2, ...) and following Fermi statistics are called baryons, while those with integer spin and following Bose-Einstein statistics are called mesons. The former include protons, neutrons, Λ (lambda) particles, and Σ (sigma) particles, while the latter include π (pi) mesons and K mesons. According to current knowledge of particle physics, hadrons can be defined as particles made from quarks.
