Babbler (English spelling)

Japanese: チメドリ(知目鳥) - チメドリ（英語表記）babbler

A general term for birds of the passerine order, family Muscicapidae, subfamily Timaliinae (illustration). This subfamily contains a total of about 280 species. They are 10-40cm long, with most less than 25cm long, and most have a brownish plumage coloring. There is a wide variety of morphology, but most have rounded wings and tails that are relatively long compared to their bodies. Their beaks range from short to long, and their legs are relatively long and sturdy. They are found mainly in the Himalayas and South Asia, and are distributed from Africa in the west to New Guinea and Australia in the east.
