Born: June 20, 1858 in Turin Died March 31, 1928. Milan Italian sculptor. He studied painting at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, and later switched to sculpture. In 1884 he moved to Paris and worked under J. Darroux. He became acquainted with Rodin and Degas, and became one of the leading impressionist sculptors, favoring statues of pensive women and sick children. He is also known for incorporating landscapes into his sculptures and using wax as a material. The Hakone Open-Air Museum has in its collection "Jewish Boy" (1892-93) and other works.
