Fauna - Animals (English spelling)

Fauna - Animals (English spelling)
This is the collective name for all types of animals or groups of animals that live in a particular place. On a global scale, regions with distinctive faunas can be distinguished as a result of barriers such as oceans and mountain ranges that prevent animals from moving freely. These are called zoogeographical regions. There are several methods for dividing the regions, but the most commonly used method today is to divide them into three and five regions: the Northern Region, which consists of the Holarctic Region (Eurasia, North Africa, and North America) and the Palaeotropical Region (sub-Saharan Africa), the New Region, which consists only of the Neotropical Region (South America and tropical Asia), and the Southern Region, which consists of the Australian Region (including New Guinea) and the Oceanic Region (the islands of the South Pacific). The Wallace Line, which separates the Palaeotropical Region from the Australian Region, is recognized as a boundary between each geographical region.
