A general term for sounds and music incorporated into a specific spatial environment. It is also abbreviated as BGM. Until the 1960s, it originally referred to music incorporated into an otherwise soundless environment with a specific purpose. A typical example is the BBC program created during World War II to relieve fatigue and reduce accidents among mobilized factory workers. BGM is also an important area for use in the medical field. Today, purpose-recorded records and tapes are supplied in greater quantities and in a more organized way than radio. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
