[Nippo Jisho (1603-04)]② A vassal of a shogun with land in the west who was stationed in Kyoto during the Kamakura period and served the Rokuhara Tandai. Exempt from the duties of the oban-yaku, they stood guard at the kagariya (fire lanterns) set up in various places in the capital. After the fall of the Kamakura Shogunate, they belonged to Ashikaga Takauji, and later became the core of the servants of the Muromachi Shogunate. ※Heike (early 13th century) 4 "When they set fire to the house of a resident of Shirakawa and burned it, the samurai of Rokuhara in Kyoto expressed their pity and said, "We will kill you." 〘名〙① 都に滞在、居住している人。〔日葡辞書(1603‐04)〕② 鎌倉時代、京都に常駐して六波羅探題に奉公した西国に所領を有する御家人。大番役を免除され、洛中の諸所に設けられた篝屋で警備をつとめた。鎌倉幕府滅亡後は足利尊氏に属し、のちには室町幕府の奉公衆の中核となった。※平家(13C前)四「白河の在家に火をかけてやきあげば、在京人六波羅の武士、あはれ事いできたりとて、はせむかはんずらん」
