Konstantin Nikolaevich Batyushkov

Japanese: バーチュシコフ - ばーちゅしこふ(英語表記)Константин Николаевич Батюшков/Konstantin Nikolaevich Batyushkov
Konstantin Nikolaevich Batyushkov

A Russian poet. Born into an old aristocratic family. He participated in the war against Napoleon, and was later stationed in Italy as a diplomat. He wrote light-hearted, Anacreon-esque poetry from an early age, and became a member of the Arzamas Society (1815-18), which supported Karamzin's reform of literary language. Many of his works delicately sing of the joys and sorrows of life, and his representative poems include the elegies "Shadow of a Friend" (1814) and "The Dying Tasso" (1817). His collected works include "An Experiment in Poetry and Prose" (1817). He is also known for his contributions to introducing classical Greek poetry and Byron, and is known as Pushkin's direct predecessor. He ceased activities in 1822 due to a hereditary mental illness.
