[History of the concept of truth]
The Greek word alētheia, meaning truth, is formed by adding the prefix a, which has the functions of lack, negation, and deprivation, to lēthē, which means forgetfulness → concealment, and is a word that gives the impression of "de-concealment." For the ancient Greeks who created this word, the original experience of truth was apparently a kind of destructive experience that "destroyed concealment and illusion and revealed existence as it is."
