Novelist. Born in Tokyo. After graduating from Kobe First Middle School and Kobe Third High School, he graduated from the Department of Japanese Literature at Tokyo Imperial University in 1936 (Showa 11). While still a student, he participated in the journals "Nikreki" and "Jinmin Bunko". After ten years of devoting himself to writing, he discovered his own treasure trove with "In the Mist" (1947), which depicts the strange fate of the Aizu samurai, followed by the series "Falling Castle" (1949), which deals with the Boshin War and the Pacific War, and historical novels such as "Sagi" (1950), which depicts the Sengoku period. He also wrote semi-autobiographical works such as "Ashizuri Misaki" (1949), "Kikuzaka" and "Ehon" (both 1950), which deal with the dark days of his youth around the 1930s, and "The Heretic Child" (1952) and "From Notes from Okinawa" (1972), which sharply point out the contradictions of modern society. His literature is dominated by dark, heavy, and heartbreaking lyricism, with the anger at the loss of irreplaceable lives at its core.
