Honey buzzard (English spelling)

Japanese: ハチクマ(蜂角鷹) - ハチクマ(英語表記)honey buzzard
Honey buzzard (English spelling)
A bird of the order Accipitridae. It is a bird similar to the Mountain Hawk-Eagle, which eats bees. It breeds in the subarctic south of Eurasia, the Malay Archipelago, and the Philippines, and those that breed in high latitudes migrate south in winter. It is a large hawk with a total length of about 58 cm, and mainly eats the larvae and pupae of wasps that nest underground. For this reason, its beak is small for a hawk, and the feathers on its face are hard and scaly to prevent bee stings. Its back is black-brown, but there is a great deal of individual variation in the underside, ranging from black-brown to pale.
