Jingasauni - Jingasauni

This sea urchin is a marine animal that belongs to the phylum Echinodermata, class Echinoidea, family Echinidae. Its unique shape resembles a pot lid or a battle hat. It sticks to rocks on rough shores facing the open sea. The spines on the upper surface are shaped like small flat columns with flat tips, and they stick to each other and cover the surface of the shell like paving stones. The spines on the sides are rectangular plates that surround the shell like decorative fringes. There are needle-like spines on the underside. They are about 6 centimeters in length and 1.5 centimeters in height. The upper surface is black and the underside is pale red. It is found in the shallow waters of the Satsunan Islands, south of the southern Izu Islands, the Indian Ocean, and the western Pacific Ocean. It is occasionally known from the southern tip of the Kii Peninsula and the southern tip of Kyushu.

棘皮(きょくひ)動物門ウニ綱ナガウニ科に属する海産動物。全体が鍋蓋(なべぶた)、あるいは陣笠のような特異な形をしたウニ。外海に面した波の荒い海岸の岩の上に、吸い付いたように張り付いている。上面のとげは先端の平たい小柱状となり、互いに密着して敷石を詰めたように殻の表面を覆う。側面のとげは長方形の板状になり、縁飾りのように周りを取り巻く。下面には針状のとげがある。長径6センチメートル、高さ1.5センチメートルぐらい。上面は黒、下面は淡赤色。薩南(さつなん)諸島、伊豆諸島南部以南、インド洋、西太平洋の浅海域に分布する。紀伊半島南端や九州南端からもまれに知られる。
