A former town in Minamikoma District, western Yamanashi Prefecture. The main settlement at the southern end of the Kofu Basin faces the Fuji River and prospered as a river port at the Kai Kanmon barrier, but declined when a railway line was opened on the opposite bank. National Route 52 runs through the town, making it a thriving commercial center. Agriculture and forestry are also carried on. Amahata suzuri is a local specialty. In March 2010, it merged with Masuho Town, Minamikoma District, to form Fujikawa Town, Minamikoma District. 46.81 km2 . 4,294 people (2005). 山梨県西部,南巨摩(みなみこま)郡の旧町。甲府盆地南端の主集落は富士川に臨み,甲斐の関門の河港として繁栄したが,対岸に鉄道が開通し衰微。国道52号線が通じ商業が盛ん。農林業も営む。雨畑すずりを特産。2010年3月南巨摩郡増穂町と合併,南巨摩郡富士川町となる。46.81km2。4294人(2005)。
