Consumption and household statistics

Japanese: 消費･家計統計 - しょうひかけいとうけい

The economic activities of households, such as earning income to live, purchasing consumer goods and services, or saving, are called "households," and statistics that grasp the state of households are called consumption statistics or household statistics. The main surveys that obtain these household statistics are the Household Survey conducted by the Statistics Bureau of the Management and Coordination Agency (prior to June 1984, the Statistics Bureau of the Prime Minister's Office) targeting all households nationwide, excluding agricultural, forestry, and fishery households and single-person households, and the Farm Economic Survey conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries targeting farm households.

世帯が生活を営むうえで所得を得，消費財やサービスを購入しあるいは貯蓄をするという経済活動を〈家計〉といい，この家計の状況を把握する統計を消費統計または家計統計という。この家計統計を得る調査のおもなものには，総務庁統計局(1984年6月以前は総理府統計局)が全国の世帯のうち，農林漁家および単身者世帯を除いた世帯を対象として実施している家計調査および農林水産省が農家世帯を対象として実施している農家経済調査がある。
