Melfi Law Code (English: Constitutioni di Melfi)

A collection of royal laws for the Kingdom of Sicily, enacted in 1231 by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II (1194-1250) at Melfi in southern Italy. It is also called the Imperial Book, Liber Augustalis. Frederick II was born to Emperor Henry VI and the Norman Sicilian princess Constance, and became king of Sicily at the age of three, and later became emperor (crowned in 1220). He inherited the Norman dynasty and built a centralized state under the influence of the Byzantine Empire, and used it as a foothold to strengthen imperial power.

神聖ローマ皇帝フリードリヒ2世(1194‐1250)が1231年に南イタリアのメルフィで制定したシチリア王国の勅法集成。《皇帝の書Liber Augustalis》とも呼ばれる。フリードリヒ2世は，皇帝ハインリヒ6世とノルマンのシチリア王女コンスタンツェとのあいだに生まれ，3歳でシチリア王に即位，のちに皇帝となった(1220戴冠)。彼はノルマン王朝を受け継ぎつつビザンティン帝国の影響のもとに集権的国家を建設し，それを足場として帝権の強化を企てた。
