Silver carp (Hakuren)

Japanese: ハクレン(白鰱) - ハクレン（英語表記）silver carp

It is often called forneyo together with the black sea bass Aristichthys nobilis . It is a freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae in the order Cypriniformes. It is native to the large rivers of the Asian continent and the lakes and marshes of the plains that follow them. It is large, reaching a total length of over 1m. Its body is laterally compressed and spindle-shaped, with a large head and eyes positioned slightly downward. The outer edge of the ventral side of the body is flattened and keel-like, and its front extends further forward than the base of the pelvic fin. The gill rakers are almost entirely fused together, forming a spongy structure with countless holes on the surface.

コクレン(黒鰱)Aristichthys nobilisといっしょにしてレンギョと呼ぶ場合が多い。コイ目コイ科の淡水魚。原産地はアジア大陸一帯の大河川とこれに続く平野部の湖沼。大型で全長1m以上に達する。体は側扁した紡錘形で，頭が大きく眼はやや下方に位置する。体の腹側の外縁は扁平なキール状になり，その前方は腹びれの基部よりも前方に及んでいる。鰓耙（さいは）はほぼ全面が癒着して表面に無数の穴のある海綿状の構造をしている。
