A river that flows from south to north in the western part of the Gaema Plateau in the northeastern part of the Korean Peninsula and empties into the Chosin River. It has a total length of 121 km and a drainage area of 1,838 square km. It originates from Mt. Godae (1,768 m) in the Myohyang Mountains, flows northeast along the foothills of Bujeonryeong, leaves the alluvial plateau basin, turns north, and empties into the artificial lake, Pojeon Lake. Downstream from the lake, it flows north through a gorge, joins the Daedonggi River, and joins the Chosin River in Nangli County, Jagang Province.
