Iyonada Sea

One of the seven seas of the Seto Inland Sea. It refers to the sea area bounded by the Boyo Islands to the north, the Sadamisaki Peninsula to the south, and the Suo Nada to the west. The Kutsuna Islands, which occupy the eastern part of the Boyo Islands, have many reefs, a complex underwater topography, and a depth of 50 to 80 meters. This area is the center of the western part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park, and has a typical archipelago landscape. Fog occurs from spring to summer, hindering ship navigation. In addition, the difference in temperature near the sea surface causes light refraction, resulting in the floating island phenomenon (islands appearing to float above the sea surface). In addition to the Kutsuna Islands, there are Aoshima Island, Ominase Island, Kominase Island, Yuri Island, and other islands, which became the stage for the navy. It is also a good fishing ground for sardines. The entire sea area is almost flat, and the depth is 50 to 60 meters.

瀬戸内海七灘(なだ)の一つ。北は防予(ほうよ)諸島、南は佐田岬(さだみさき)半島、西は周防(すおう)灘によってくぎられる海域をさす。防予諸島の東部を占める忽那諸島(くつなしょとう)は岩礁が多く、海底地形が複雑で海深は50～80メートルである。この地域は瀬戸内海国立公園の西部の中心で、典型的な多島海の景観美をもっている。春から夏にかけては霧が発生し、船舶航行の妨げとなる。また海面付近の気温の差異が光の屈折を引き起こし、浮島現象（島が海面から浮いてみえる）がみられる。忽那諸島のほか、青島、大水無瀬(おおみなせ)島、小水無瀬島、由利島などがあり、水軍の活躍舞台となった。イワシの好漁場でもある。全体の海域はほぼ平坦(へいたん)で海深は50～60メートルである。
