Nepeta subsessilis Maxim.
A perennial herb of the Lamiaceae family that grows in colonies in grasslands in deep mountains (illustration). The stem is square, upright, 50-100cm tall, and covered with fine hairs. The leaves are opposite, long ovate, 6-14cm long, serrated, and pointed at the tip. The flowers are indigo-purple in color and appear in large numbers on spikes at the ends of the stems in July and August. The calyx is tubular with 15 veins and has five lobes at the tip, sharply pointing. The corolla is 25-30mm long, two-lipped with a long tube, the lower lip is slightly larger, it has three lobes, and the central lobe has purple spots. There are four stamens.
