Striped spur - Striped spur

Japanese: スジヒトツバ - すじひとつば
Striped spur - Striped spur
An evergreen small fern (illustration) that grows under relatively dry forests in warm mountainous regions. It is classified as a member of the Polypodiaceae family, but some classification systems recognize the monotypic family, Polypodiaceae. The rhizome is short and transverse, and is stiff and densely covered with soft hairs but without scales. The leaves are dimorphic. The vegetative leaves are simple, entire, sometimes bifurcated at the tip, and have long petioles. The blade of the vegetative leaf is broadly ovate-elliptical, 10-20 cm long and 3-10 cm wide, while the blade of the sporophyte leaf is linear-lanceolate, 8-15 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide, with sporangia on the entire underside except below the midrib, and mixed with hairs.
