The capital of Andhra Pradesh in southern India, located in the mid-west of the state. It is also called Hyderabad. It has a population of 3.15 million (1991). To distinguish it from the city of the same name in southern Pakistan, this city, located in the central Deccan Plateau, is sometimes called Hyderabad Deccan. It is made up of two twin towns: Hyderabad (stricken by the name Hyderabad), which straddles both the north and south banks of the Musi River, and Secunderābād, which lies to the north across the artificial lake Hussain Sagar (built in 1592).HyderabadSource: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
