...Many alluvial fans have been formed at the foot of these mountains, and the Midai River alluvial fan in the west and the Kanakawa alluvial fan in the east are known as typical examples. Behind the alluvial fans are higher plateaus such as the Ichinosedai in the west and the Sone Hills in the south. In the west of the basin, the Kamanashi River flows from Mt. Kaikoma at the northern end of the Akaishi Mountains and joins the Shiokawa River, while in the east, the Fuefuki River flows, originating from Mt. Kobushi in the Chichibu Mountains and joining the Shigekawa River, Hikawa River, Kanakawa River, Arakawa River, and others. These join in the southwest of the basin to become the Fuji River, which cuts a gorge and flows south into Suruga Bay.
