Otogi-zoshi. One of the Shibukawa versions. Irairuimono. The son of an old monkey, Masiono Gonnokami, from Noseyama in Tanba Province, Kokemaru-dono was extremely intelligent and skilled in the arts, but when he turned 20, his parents encouraged him to marry, but he refused, saying that he had other plans. On his way back from a pilgrimage to Hiyoshi, he fell in love with the beautiful figure of a princess of Usagi Iki-no-kami playing the koto near Kitashirakawa, and fell in love. Kokemaru continued to visit Hiyoshi, making a vow with all his heart and courage, and instead of returning to his hometown, he spent the night idly making a mat out of moss, when he met the fox Inaka-dono.
