Akihayama - Akihasan

Japanese: 秋葉山 - あきはさん
Akihayama - Akihasan

This mountain is located in Tenryu Ward, Hamamatsu City, in the west of Shizuoka Prefecture. It is 885 meters above sea level. It is one of the mountain ranges that form the vanguard of the Akaishi Mountain Range, and is at the southern end of the ridge between the Tenryu River and the Keta River. Akiba Shrine is enshrined at the summit, and a little further down is Akiba Temple, which enshrines Sanjakubo Daigongen. The temple enshrines the god of fire prevention, and is famous for its fire festival held in mid-December. The cedar forest at the summit is an artificial forest, and contains giant trees that are up to 500 years old. From the lodgings on the southern foot of the mountain, the Tokai Nature Trail runs along the former Akiba Highway, and leads from the summit to Akiba Dam. The entire area is included in the Tenryu-Okumikawa Quasi-National Park.
