Césaire - Césaire (English spelling) Aimé Césaire

Japanese: セゼール - せぜーる(英語表記)Aimé Césaire
Césaire - Césaire (English spelling) Aimé Césaire

A black poet and politician from Martinique in the West Indies. He was forced to adopt the culture of his colonial homeland, France, and "had his thoughts engulfed in the language of the white man" (Sartre). During his time studying in Paris from 1931 to 1939, he met the African Senghor, and discovered his own inner "negritude" (blackness), which he attempted to liberate through poetic language. His works include the long poem "Notes on the Return to the Fatherland" (1939), the collection of poems "The Miraculous Weapon" (1946), and the plays "A Season in the Congo" (1967) and " Moi, laminaire... " (1982). In 1945, he became mayor of Fort-de-France, the capital city of Martinique. He initially belonged to the Communist Party and promoted assimilation into the mother country, but left the party in 1956 and formed the Martinique Progressive Party in 1958, after which he adopted the banner of autonomy. He served as mayor for over 50 years, until 2001.
